When you first heard about the CASC credential, what were your initial thoughts?
When I first heard about the CASC credential, I was the Ophthalmology Department manager at my ambulatory surgery center (ASC). I had known of others that were CASC certified and I had always been interested in advancing my knowledge and skillset in the realm of ASC Administration.
Why did you pursue the CASC credential?
I decided to pursue the CASC credential after being promoted to Administrator of our center. I felt that this credential not only solidified my commitment and dedication to our center, but also an ongoing pursuit of excellence for our staff, patients, and physicians.
What do you think is the value of CASC?
I have found that achieving the CASC credential is invaluable. Becoming an Administrator of an ASC requires a specific skillset and knowledge base and the CASC program specifically highlights all of the necessary and pertinent subject matter.
How do you think earning and maintaining the credential will benefit you and your ambulatory surgery center?
Being an RN, I was mostly exposed to the clinical side of the ASC world. In studying and achieving the CASC credential I have been opened up to the ASC world in totality. Not only does it make for a more well-rounded Administrator, but it also proves your commitment to every aspect of your center.
What advice would you give to those individuals who are considering pursuing CASC?
If you are a person that enjoys a challenge and wants to be regarded as a top professional in your field, I say absolutely go for it. The feeling of accomplishment after the credential is obtained is nothing short of amazing.

I enjoy that the CASC credential is a means of continuously learning and improving yourself as an Administrator. Having to maintain continuing education credits ensures that you are always learning, training, and keeping your knowledge base current. There are so many aspects to ASC administration and CASC truly displays how many hats we all wear every day!
