When you first heard about the CASC credential, what were your initial thoughts?

When I first heard about the CASC credential it was because my then-boss was studying for it. I’m a huge fan of higher learning and advanced certification so I was interested right away.

Why did you pursue the CASC credential?

I decided to pursue the credential after being promoted to Director of our Center. I felt the credential was a good way to showcase my knowledge of what it takes to be a good director.

What do you think is the value of CASC?

Managing an ambulatory surgery center (ASC) is a very specialized role and takes a special skillset and knowledge base. I think the CASC credential highlights that you have those skills and abilities.

How do you think earning and maintaining the credential will benefit you and your ambulatory surgery center?

For me one of my greatest benefits came before even earning the credential. In studying for the exam, I spent a lot of time in the clinical areas of our Center. I come from the business side of the ASC world, so immersing myself in the clinical side was hugely helpful. This gave me an opportunity to both prepare for my exam as well as get to know my team members better.

What advice would you give to those individuals who are considering pursuing CASC?

I would tell them to absolutely go for it. The process is smooth and the feeling of accomplishment after you attain it is wonderful!

Anything else you’d like to add?

I like how the exam is broken into sections and really does a good job of encompassing all the many hats you have to wear as an ASC Director!
