Why did you choose to join BASC?
I’m very proud of my CASC and CAIP credentials and I wanted to be a part of the organization that developed them. I wanted to be able to be an advocate for others to obtain their certification.
When you first heard about BASC what were your initial thoughts?
One of the great leaders in the ASC community.
What is your favorite thing about being on BASC’s leadership board?
I enjoy having a voice and being a small part of the decision-making process helping to grow the organization. I also greatly enjoy building professional relationships with my peers.
How do you think earning and maintaining the CAIP/CASC credential will benefit certificants and their ASC?
They are important to confirm to their board as well as surveys they have the credentials backing the knowledge of the position they hold.
What advice would you give to those individuals who are considering becoming a certificant?
Take the exams. You know more than you think you do. If you do not pass the exam the first go around, you will have a better understanding of the exam for your successful second sitting.
Anything else you’d like to add?
It gives me great pride to show the CMS inspector my CAIP when they ask me who is in charge of my Infection Control program and what training they have. I had not completed my BSN when I obtained my CASC certification. Passing the CASC gave me the personal confirmation I needed to confirm I did understand all the regulations as well as all the other aspects of being the Administrator of my facility.
