Everything You Need to Prepare for Exam Success
Review CASC exam information on structure, dates, applications and study resources. The CASC exam evaluates your expertise across the most critical areas of ASC leadership. Below, you will find key details about the exam structure, application windows, preparation tools and what to expect before and after test day.
Exam Structure
The CASC exam structure includes five sections that evaluate knowledge in the following content areas:
- Delivery of Patient Care
- Quality Management
- Human Resources
- Financial
- Regulatory and Legal Issues

Testing Format
The exam is administered online through PSI Services. Watch a video overview of the PSI Services test center experience to familiarize yourself with the environment.
Exam Dates and Application Windows
The CASC exam is offered twice per year and can be scheduled for any available date within the designated testing months.
Applications must be submitted electronically and are available only during the CASC application window. Access the online application.
Note: Paper applications are no longer accepted.

Results Notification
- Immediate: Test takers will receive an examination completion report immediately upon finishing the test.
- Mail: PSI will provide official notification of the pass/fail status in writing within approximately six to eight weeks. The printed score report is in an envelope marked “Important Examination Information Enclosed”
Scores are not released by phone, fax or email. Ensure your mailing address is accurate on the application.

Candidates should choose materials based on their existing knowledge and preparation needs.
Note: Use of recommended resources does not guarantee a passing score on the CASC exam.
Practice Exam
An online CASC practice exam is available for purchase to help candidates prepare for the format and scope of the actual exam.
- Cost: $279
- Total Questions: 80 (40 retired exam questions + 40 new questions)
- Coverage: All five CASC content areas
- Access Period: 45 days from activation
- Features: Change answers while the exam is active; view scoring by content area upon completion

The Process
After your application and payment are accepted, PSI will email instructions to access the CASC practice exam. You will have 45 days to complete it online. While the exam is open, you may change answers as often as you like, but once submitted, answers cannot be revised. Upon completion, you will receive statistics that show the number of correct answers in each content area.
Additional Prep Resource
BASC also recognizes the AORN ASC Academy: Prep for Infection Prevention Certification (12 CH). While designed with infection prevention in mind, this course addresses ASC responsibilities that overlap with the CASC exam content areas. It includes:
- A pre-test and post-tests in each module
- A 100-question practice exam
- Six months of complimentary access to AORN’s eGuidelines Plus (including tools like checklists, case studies, calculators and clinical FAQs)
This course is approved for up to 12.0 hours of AEUs and up to 12.0 hours of IPCHs by BASC Provider #0102 and supports the CASC exam content areas.
