Many CASC candidates have requested that BASC provide a list of resources. To assist candidates in preparing for the CASC examination, BASC is providing the following list of publications and recordings that cover topics on the CASC Examination Content Outline.
BASC is not recommending, nor does it think it advisable, that candidates attempt to obtain and study all of these materials. Rather this list provides resources that candidates can use to supplement their knowledge and experiences in areas that they believe they may be weak. For example, a candidate with a strong financial background may only need to study some additional materials on clinical issues while an individual who has not had extensive financial experience may need to review basic financial principles. This list should be used selectively to enhance knowledge, not as a required reading list.
These publications may be used by candidates to study for the examination. Candidates are advised, however, that this is by no means a list of all the possible sources of information on the key topics covered. Nor is it guaranteed that all questions on the examination are covered in one of these sources. BASC does not endorse or recommend any particular publication, or that candidates purchase or study all of these publications. The actual questions that are on the examination are extremely confidential. The questions and answers have been developed, in consultation with professional advisors, by a committee of volunteer individuals who have signed a confidentiality agreement with BASC and, therefore, cannot discuss the questions nor can those individuals teach courses or publish documents to assist candidate in preparing for the examination.

The value of the CASC certification process started for me when I began to research the qualifications that were required to apply to take the exam. Achieving the qualifying criteria became a professional goal. Preparing for the exam reinforced knowledge learned from experience and exposed me to new and different facts and theories relevant to operating ambulatory surgery centers.... The act of taking the exam was a concentrated learning opportunity in and of itself."
